Limitations

Limitations of hardware

Digital Cameras

Speed

A lot of cameras have a slow shutter speed meaning that if you press the shutter the digital camera may delay a second or two before it captures the image. This can become very annoying especially if you are looking to capture images that are moving fast such as a horse racing.

Battery life

Digital cameras use up a lot of battery life as they require a lot of power to capture an image as it is converting light into an actual digital image. It can become very annoying if you want to take a rare image and you find out that your camera has no battery.

Data loss

Images can be lost if you loose the small SD card, you are transferring the images to your computer and an unexpected break in the USB lead occurs, or if you have the images stored on the cameras memory and the camera becomes broken or damaged. This is why it is important to back your images up as often as possible so that if you do loose images you will not loose all of your images.

Can become broken

Lots of digital cameras may break. They may fall and crack the screen or if they are not waterproof they may become water damaged and become broken.

Space

Most digital camera come with a small amount of built in memory. This means that if you want to take a lot of pictures then you will most likely have to buy an SD card to store more images to.

Image quality

How much you are willing to spend on a digital camera will effect the image quality of an image as the cheaper digital cameras are usually of lower quality and the megapixel size is usually no where near as good as a more expensive camera.

Cost

Digital cameras can be bought for a cheap price, however the cheaply bought cameras are usually of low quality and break easily. If you want a really good digital camera that takes professional looking images then you usually have to pay big money for these. If you buy an expensive camera then I recommend  that you purchase insurance in the event that your camera is lost, broken or stolen.

Technology

Cameras are always updated so if you want a camera with all the newest features then you will have to purchase a new digital camera approximately once a year.

Graphics Tablet

Difficult to use for a beginner

For someone that has no experience on  using a graphics tablet they are likely to find it difficult to get the hang of as it is a lot different as to using a mouse, it can be tricky to access menus and good hand to eye co-ordination is required therefore a lot of practice is necessary.

Cost

A good graphics tablet is expensive to buy and costs a lot more than a mouse. Graphics tablets vary in price, the cheaper ones are of lower quality so when purchasing a graphics tablet it is recommended that you buy a good one as this will effect the quality of your drawings. Graphic tablets can cost up to £2000.

Durability

Graphic tablets are easily broken. This is a major disadvantage especially if you spent a lot of money on one. You should consider buying insurance in case this happens. The screen can break easily if the tablet is dropped and another frequent reason for the tablets breaking is that they become waterlogged if someone spills a drink over it.

Limitations of software

Adobe Photoshop

Cost

The latest version of Adobe Photoshop (CS6) is £667.20 to purchase. This is extremely expensive for a peice of software.

Not suitable for beginners

Adobe Photoshop has many features that a beginner may find hard to use as it is designed to be used by professionals therefore training will be required to be able to properly use this piece of software.

Sumo paint

Lack of tools

Sumo Paint does not have as many tools and features as other graphic editing software such as Adobe Photoshop. This will mean that the user will not be able to perfect their image as well in comparison to a better graphic editing software such as Adobe Photoshop.

Internet Connection

If the user's internet connection is lost or the explorer crashes during the editing of an image then their progress will be lost. This can be extremely aggravating for someone that has spent hours upon hours perfecting their image.

File extension is incompatible with other software

Sumo Paint have their own file extension for editing. Although you can save your finished file in popular file extensions such as .Jpeg once you have finished your image but if the user is working on a graphic image that is incomplete they can not open the file extension on other graphic editing software as Sumo Paint is the only software that is compatible with the .Sumo extension.
